This environmentally-friendly residence for Rottmann Collier owner and architect, Rod Collier, and his husband, John Strachan, was designed and built in 2006 in the historic Herron-Morton Place Neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis. John and Rod initially created a 3-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home that was designed for an active entertaining lifestyle in just 2,700 sf; a large open floor plan allows for maximum flexibility and socialization, while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere.

The home maintains a timeless connection to the neighborhood’s historic references, but the simple materials and detailing convey a modern design.

After living in the home for 7 years, Rod and John completed the construction of the unfinished lower level in 2013. This new space was comprised of 2 additional bedrooms, a 3rd full bath, a theater room, and Rod’s wine cellar in an additional 850 sf.

Covid-19 caused several people to want to renovate their homes. Rod and John didn’t want to renovate anything, but they did still have unfinished space that needed to become something. In the spring of 2021, they decided to finish out the empty shell of the 750 sf carriage house second level. Click below to see that amazing space!
